SIMON MUNNERY: CULT COMEDY IN MADRID

simonmunneryweb.jpg Simon Munnery - also known by his stage names of Alan Parker: Urban Warrior and The League Against Tedium - is an English comedy legend. Munnery was to the fore of British alternative comedy’s rise in the 90’s and has never swayed from these chaotic alternative roots since. His stand-up is perhaps best described as often satirical, often political and almost always surreal.

Simon is an integral part of that style of surrealist comedy that underpins all the best comedy that has come from England since Monty Python, through League of Gentlemen to most recently the Mighty Boosh. Appeared first in 1994 as part of the original Comedy Zone line-up at Edinburgh, with Stewart Lee, Mark Lamarr and Chris and George.

In 1996 he created the legendary Alan Parker - Urban Warrior - a self-appointed spokesperson for the dispossessed generation and prophet to the disconnected masses who seeks to smash the system with subversion, some placards and a spray-can. In 1996, Alan Parker-Urban Warrior starred on ITV's Saturday Live and appeared in his own BBC2 show London Shouting which was written with Father Ted (C4) creator, Graham Lineham.  The League Against Tedium over the next 4 years performed all over the world from Melbourne to Aspen with several different manifestations appearing on TV and Radio. In 2001 Attention Scum, starring The League, was premiered on BBC2 and BBC Choice in January and was nominated for a Golden Rose of Montreux. In 2004 Simon staged the first Simon Munnery’s Annual General meeting at the Edinburgh festival and it has become an institution at the festival, when the shows run out of time he and audience heads out unannounced into the festival! People can expect a totally unpredictable, chaotic show littered with poetry, genuine pearls of comic genius and we predict a memorable night like none we've had before at the GG from a very unique comedian.  (watch video)
