THE GIGGLING GUIRI GUIDE TO THE EDINBURGH FRINGE!!

OUR TOP 10 FRINGE TIPS: The Edinburgh Fringe is just one of several festivals taking place simultansously  that turn this beautiful city into the greatest celebration of arts and culture in the world. It really is something. This years Fringe programme alone contains over 2000 shows, everything from comedy to childrens shows to Dance. It can be daunting. To get the best out of your trip we have created a GG guide of things that can help enhance your experience and make it a tad easier on the pocket because it is bloody expensive.
1. When to go?
the best times to go are Week 1 for the budget traveller - there is a lot more free shows and 2x1 offers as shows are finding their groove early days
Week 3 - This is when the different industry people descend on the city and the acts are well in the groove and wanting to give the best of their shows. The Fringe is also a massive Arts supermarket as promoters from accross the planet come searching for the killer shows.
2. How to go? fly direct to Edinburgh airport. There may be a cheaper flight to Glasgow or somewhere close by but be aware British public transport isn't cheap. Unfortunately the airlines all know people want to go there so book as early as possible
3. Where to stay? Hotels are stupid expensive and a lot of the good hostels tend to be booked way in advance. The best Edinburgh accommodation deal is definitely taking a flat if in a group or renting a room and the only place to look is the discussion boards of the official Fringe website www.edfringe.com
You will also have use of a kitchen so can save a few bucks on not eating out all the time.
4. Where in Edinburgh? For those who have never being to Edinburgh its a little hilly in places It certainly adds to the beauty of teh city but can be a killer to walk around. Get as close to the centre as possible and we recommend the Meadows side of the Royal Mile as this is where the highest concentration of venues and action is.
5. Get Your programme before you go!! makes great beach reading and it is vital to take a look at some of the things you might want to go to in advance. It has maps with venues and will at least give you an idea of what is involved. Order through www.edfringe.com
6. Big name shows, on weekends always sell out. Like anything Friday and Saturday is super busy and advance booking on many shows is advised on these two days. Advance booking details on www.edfringe.com
7. On a budget: There are loads of absolutely free shows everything from comedy to theatre. You will find many advertised directly in the programme but the Royal Mile will have people touting free shows every day. There is also a Half Price booth where especially on the weekdays you can find some very strong names for cheap.
8. Don't forget the other festivals and other action. From the really great Film festival to top music concerts its massive. Also there are some pretty cool daytrips out of town to get a breather.
9. Gastronomy!! Eating deep fried haggis can kill and such 'local cuisine'  is best left to the local who apparently have a daily requirement of fat somewhat like the Meditterranean need for water. There are some great Indian restaurants and for €10 we highly recommend the Foodies festival which has some serious quality whiskey tasting where sampling copious amounts is heartily encouraged.
10. Comedy 2008 suggestions - heres a few which for different reasons would be difficult to get to Madrid and Barcelona, are pure Fringe shows and we will be checking out
The Penny Dreadfuls
Andy Saltzmans Political animal
Pappys Fun Club
Stewart Lee's Scrambled Egg
Tim Minchin
Bill Bailey
Otis Lee Crenshaw
The Meeting..........................   its a long list!
