LOGAN MURRAY COMEDY WORKSHOPS
Using comedy to unlock your creative potential
We may have a lot of ideas in our head, but sometimes communicating them can be a real bugger.
What stops us performing at our best?
What causes us to freeze up when we would best be served by being dynamic?
The answer is that we each carry an idea of who we are in our head that traps us. We adopt a social mask that inhibits our creativity. We love to pigeon hole ourselves as responsible adults, serious people, the firm but fair boss, the office wag, in short, we are all playing at being grown ups. But no one has a clue what this really means!
I would like to suggest that instead of playing at being an Adult, we turn off our social editors and allow ourselves to play at being Fools.
What do comedians do that makes them look so damned attractive to the members of the public?
How can you emulate that?
Introduction
The course is designed to help confidence building, creativity and teamwork. You will learn how to be funny without really trying, and how to deliver under pressure. You may even decide to give up your day job!
We shall be exploring the rudiments of comedy through games and writing, culminating in a series of readings and recitals.
Course Contents
PART ONE: Who are you?
1. We will play a number of games designed to unlock the creative communicator that lies within each of us, but which is usually buried under a weight of mundane trivia.
2. We will examine Status Dynamics in groups to learn how to avoid becoming trapped in a role that makes us less productive (and less fulfilled!).
3. We will learn to play with Attitude, to find the humour in any situation.
4. We will learn to look and listen in greater detail to the way people say things.
PART TWO: Learning to Stand Up
1. We will learn to match thought with deed, so that we can communicate exactly the message we are trying to convey. Its no good trying to be bold if youre taking an involuntary step backwards!
2. Learn to play the moment rather than being embedded in the past.
3. Find out how the person everyone believes you to be prevents you from being the person you really are. Eliminate the deadwood!
4. Learn to communicate with clarity, conviction and humour.
PART THREE. Putting on a Show
1. Applying everything weve learnt to improve our performance.
2. Writing (and performing) some material that will prove how funny you really are.
3. Learn how easy it is to make people laugh with your own written material: never again will you have to say in a speech I am reminded of the story
!
4. Learn the structure of Jokes.
5. Learn to write one-liners and monologues that are good enough to be performed at Comedy Clubs

"the course took me from being funny in my own head to making a room full of strangers laugh (and applaud!). The final end of course show was one of the best nights of my life! I thoroughly recommend this course." Pete Smith, student from 2008 workshop in Barcelona
"You always know when a new comedian has been on a Logan Murray course - they are as equipped with knowledge on how the business works, as they are confident and funny. He encourages performers find their own voice rather than falling in the trap of copying a well known performer's comedy style". Claire Stroud, promoter Misfits comedy club
